CV - HISTORY

Michael completed a year at Rhodes University Fine art Department in 1982 after which he worked for Unicorn Shipping lines as a Navigating cadet and Safmarine Shipping lines as an Engineering cadet. He then completed his national service in the SA Navy where he served in the Marines and as a Navy diver.

After completing National service in 1988 he worked as a tour guide in the Richtersveld on the Orange river and then returned home to Durban where he began work as a Lifeguard while continuing training in diving, first aid, and seamanship.

During this time and since he has been a regular competitor in lifesaving and surfing events.

While lifesaving he worked part time spraying surfboards and in 1999 began this work full time in the surf board factories. He then began adapting his artwork for use on clothing in the surf industry. His art has been used on clothing by Instinct and Quiksilver.

He is currently working in graphics as well as fine art.  He has worked with environmental groups and his ambition is to work as an artist to contribute to wildlife conservation work in the surfing environment.
