CV AND WORK HISTORY

After a year at Rhodes University Fine art Department (1982) I went to sea with Unicorn lines as a Navigating cadet and then Safmarine as an Engineering cadet. I then completed my national service in the SA Navy in the Marines and as a diver.

In 1989 I worked as a tour guide in the Richtersveld on the Orange river and then returned home to Durban where I worked as a Lifeguard while continuing training in diving, first aid, and seamanship.

I worked as a lifeguard on Durban beachfront, Jeffreys Bay and Sun City. I worked with the NSRI and as a volunteer diver at Seaworld during this time and was also involved with  setting up sea-kayak tours in the Durban area.

While lifesaving I worked part time spraying surfboards and in 1999 began this work full time in the surf board factories. I also began adapting my artwork for use in the surf industry. My art was used by Instinct, Quiksilver and Zigzag.

I set up an independent workshop for repairs and artwork for most water craft as well as fine arts and graphics and provided an independent service in website design, computer graphics and various artwork. I also did paintings for a variety of customers.

In 2008 I moved to Cape town. At the moment I am working as an educator for Save Our Seas Shark Centre and KELP. I am  developing a marine wilderness training program and doing paintings to raise money and awareness for conservation.

My ambition is to work as an artist to do conservation work in the surfing world.
