The South African Pondoland Wild
coast is under threat from an extension
to the multilane N2 highway, and
proposals for open cast dune mining by
an Australian mining company.
Sustaining the Wild Coast (SWC) is a loose coalition
of organisations and individuals who are concerned about
these developments and hope to press for ecologically
sensitive economic solutions for the Wild coast region.
If you would like to support the campaign, join the mailing
list, or learn more about the campaign, please send an email

By joining the mailing list you will receive regular updates
about developments, and how you can assist (if you wish to
do so).
MISSION STATEMENT
1. The SWC supports the rerouting of the N2 away
from the sensitive ‘Greenfield’s’ section of the
coastline that lies between Port St Johns and
Port Edward, to a less ecologically sensitive
route.
2. The SWC is opposed to any mining proposals or
other environmentally destructive economic
activities along the Wild coast.
3. The SWC supports any initiatives to develop
sustainable, community based, environmentally
sound economic activities in the region.
4. The SWC calls for the declaration of the
promised Pondoland Park, and that moves be taken
to have the region between Port Edward and Port
St Johns declared a World Heritage site, and the
whole Wild Coast region to be given special
conservation status
5. SWC calls for a moratorium on any decisions
about the proposed mining, the N2 toll extension
and other environmentally damaging projects
along the Wild Coast region until the SEA
undertaken by the Wild Coast Sustainable
Development and Conservation Project is
complete.
